Campaign Idea
For my social media campaign I decided to promote my self (www.aarulmalaviya.com) as I thought if I'm promoting something might as well promote my portfolio website. The reason behind my decision was that by the time this campaign is finished, I will be finished with my second year of university and I wanted to have an internship or some sort of a project that I wanted to get involved with so I could earn some money. So my overall goal was to get out there promote my self so I could get an internship in the digital media industry hence people in the industry looking for 3D VR developers were my target audience.

My social media campaign was called #findAarul. The idea was that people will take a selfie with me and tweet it on Twitter with my #findAarul in the description so I will be tagged. My idea was to create the buzzword in my University and get more Twitter followers. With people sharing their selfies with my details tagged I hopped that at least some of the or at least one selfie will hit it's mark (the industry). The hook for my campaign was that when people shared their selfie with me, the tweet with most re-tweets would win a Selfie Stick.

Simultaneously I decided to promote my personal twitter account in a way that I would mostly share things happening in industry like latest news at Oculus Rift or Leap Motion, VR and AR industry etc. From my other lecturers I learnt that when a person applies for a job, the industry looks though people's Facebook/Twitter pages to see how serious/interested they are in the industry. Hence I wanted to build my twitter page accordingly.

When I started my campaign, I had a twitter account with 0 followers, 0 following and 0 tweets. My target was to reach at least 50 followers and get a job/internship offer from some place.
Results
On my twitter I posted 137 tweets, from which 95% of the tweets were about what was happening in my industry, mostly re-tweets from the industry twitter accounts I was following. The rest was about sharing my friend's campaigns, promoting the Transmedia 2015, University of Winchester event. I followed 66 accounts and got 72 followers by the end of this campaign. From those 72 followers, I knew about 50 people and got other followers from sharing tweets about the industry.

Since I had no followers on twitter, I thought I might share my social media campaign on my Facebook page with the strategy that I should get my Facebook friends to start following me on twitter so if someone from the industry view's my twitter profile it would look like I've got at least some followers.

The reason behind doing all the work was to get people to my website. I was tracking my website though Google Analytics. To see if my campaign worked or not. I compared from 1st of Dec to 22nd of Feb (before my campaign) to 23rd of Feb to 31st of Mar (Life of my campaign). I had 217 sessions during 3 months before my campaign and during my campaign month I had 338 sessions, from 120 new users in 3 months I had 278 new users just from my campaign month. As you can see that from just a month's promotion I had more than double views during that month in comparison to 3 months prior. In addition the maximum number of page view I had in a day jumped from 20 to 40 views with the first day of my campaign. I had 115 sessions from UK and 59 sessions from US that were my dominating locations. I had 57 direct sessions and 30 social sessions on my website with 35% and 30% bounce rate respectively. I was really impressed as the bounce was so low and people were actually going though my website.
Conclusion
I feel that my social media campaign went very well. I did not get any job/internship offer, which was one of my goals but I fulfilled my twitter target and got many page view on my website. The feedback I got was that I promoted my campaign very well. I also promoted my campaign during Transmedia 2015 event. People also said that they like the idea of tweeting a selfie with everyone and promoting myself.

I feel that if I were to do something differently I would ask people to share my direct website or probably my work and I could randomly select a person who tweeted/shared my portfolio website for a prize.
